3 Major Moments from “Room Service Festival” Last Night
I’m obviously talking GRiZ’s set during Trap Nation’s Room Service Fest set from Sunday night (watch it here!). There were some major moments that have GRiZ Fam extra-proud and super-hyped today, but also some pretty significant news for the EDM community. Here’s the tea:
1. Griz dropped his new collab with Wreckno, a dubstep party-anthem for LGBTQ community, at the beginning of his Room Service Set.
“ID”, as it appears to be titled, is a vibe for sure with proud lyrics off the bat: “Stuntin’ cuz I’m Young, Rich, Gay, and I’m Handsome”. Griz teased the new song’s drop on his Twitter & Instagram on Saturday posting “Mission: give kids struggling w their sexuality songs to feel like being queer is cool”. We’d say this “Queer Anthem Banger” did just that. Regardless of sexuality, we’re throwing it back (classy), twerking, and getting down to this banger. I love that this song will help empower those struggling with self-confidence and lifestyles. The rest of the set included Lizzo’s “Good As Hell”, Griz’s recent “Bangerz”, “Griztronics” (obviously), and hints of dubstep, riddim, house, and techno. Listen to a repost of the whole set here or watch it here!
2. Griz’s visuals were OUT OF THIS WORLD.
Our community is constantly talking about Griz’ growth and evolution but these visuals were seriously next-level. From neon flamingos and smiley yin-yangs to skulls with glowing eyes and the overlay with him playing in the background, these visuals were TRIPPY with a capital “T”. I loved the opening “AOL” loading-style image as well as the overlay when we could see Grant in the background. The 3D-visualizer and imagery were exceptional the whole time and pretty different than his typical graphics. Our boy is “blasting off” and it makes me even more hyped for festival season (whenever that will be.).
3. Trap Nation raised more than $49,000+ in 3 days.
This is the bombshell, really. Their goal was $50K in less than 72 hours and, last we saw, they were just about there. This makes it one of the biggest, fastest, and most successful fundraisers since the COVID-19 crisis began. From Friday through Sunday, viewers had the option to tune into two channels (Chill Nation & Trap Nation) with over 100 of EDM’s top artists streaming audio- and visual-sets. “The Nations” asked for donations throughout the online festival and they crushed it. 100% of proceeds from the streams go directly to “Feeding America” & “Sweet Relief” and fans had a phenomenal time.
Tons of channels and artists are streaming during this health crisis, but this was an exceptionally well-executed stream with a philanthropic objective. Major shout out to “The Nations” and their sponsors for organizing such a successful event. The event was sponsored by RAZER: one of the leading computer hardware companies in the PC, streaming, and gaming communities.
